GARDASIL is the only vaccine that may help guard against diseases that are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV)
GARDASIL may not fully protect everyone and does not prevent all types of cervical cancer, so it is important to continue regular cervical cancer screenings. GARDASIL is given as 3 injections over 6 months and can cause pain, swelling, itching, and redness at the injection site, fever, nausea, and dizziness. GARDASIL is for girls and women ages 9 to 26. GARDASIL works when given before you have any contact with HPV Types 6, 11, 16, and 18.If you've already been infected with HPV, you may still benefit from GARDASIL because it is unlikely that you have been infected with all 4 types of the virus covered by the vaccine. Your doctor or healthcare professional can help you understand more.
HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS
Sometimes seen as genital warts. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the world. High-risk HPV may cause abnormal Pap smear results, and could lead to cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, anus, or penis. Low-risk HPV also may cause abnormal Pap results or genital warts. There is no known cure for HPV but very often it can appear on a PAP smear one time and may not reappear ever.
